Welcome to SPARK – where God is alive in each one of us!
SPARK is for our middle school students (Grades 6-7). We meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. On Sunday mornings we meet after worship for both the 9:00 A.M. and 10:30 A.M. services. On Wednesday nights we meet during Family Night from 7:00 P.M.-8:30 P.M. Our middle school youth group is co-taught, which allows our teens to build their foundation of the Bible and then use it in their everyday life while building their relationship with God.
On Sunday mornings the SPARK is under the leadership of Sheran Summers. In this class, they are able to build a Biblical foundation that will help them understand the Bible in depth. They will learn the history of the Bible, read the Bible from beginning to end, memorize scripture verses and understand their meaning. They will have the opportunity to pray and journal write on a weekly basis.
SPARK on Wednesday nights is under the leadership of Linda Gray. During this time they are learning how to apply their Biblical foundation to their everyday life. They are able to talk about the topics that affect their everyday life at home, school and the community. Then they can seek the word of God to see what it says about the topics. The class will learn to build a stronger relationship with God through discussion, prayers, and journal writing in order that they can trust him to help them in their time of need.
Our students are learning to take God everywhere they go in their lives and learning how to share God with those whom they meet. They also participate in many different outreach projects throughout the year in order that they learn how to serve others in God’s love.
SPARK is a judgment-free zone that is a warm and lively place where God is definitely moving. Whether they attend one of the classes or both, students will learn to build strong friendships with the other teens that will give them the support they need.

Sheran Summers has been teaching SPARK (6th & 7th grades) for approximately four years. SPARK (formerly Junior CREW) was formed in 2007 when it became apparent that this age group would benefit from their own class. Sheran’s enthusiasm and passion are for her students to know the Word of God. Their curriculum is the Bible. Sheran says, “We have to know the Word first: know the Word and grow in the Word. I want these students to know that this is a safe and happy environment where there are no stupid questions. No matter how confusing their world is, Jesus Christ can be the center of their lives.”
SPARK takes their faith out of the classroom as Sheran provides opportunities for lots of field trips and service projects. They partnered with the Salvation Army at Christmas. While they rang the bell to encourage donations, they distributed thousands of candy canes with the Gospel message. Other activities include sending boxes for Operation Christmas Child, supporting missionaries, attending Sight & Sound theatre in Lancaster and a yearly progressive dinner.
Sheran’s experience includes almost 30 years as a secondary English teacher in Pennsylvania. She and her husband, Alan, live in Perryopolis and have one adult son, Mark.
